For over 25 years, Betty has been writing and speaking with warmth, humor and insight about issues encountered in her practice as a Nutritionist and Diabetes Educator. In her books, workshops and presentations, Betty brings refreshing clarity, humanity and practicality to the best of current science and clinical management in diabetes, nutrition, and obesity. She employs the lenses of patient-centered care and the human experience of living with a chronic condition such as diabetes to give both professionals and consumers positive and highly effective strategies that make a difference.
International Speaker to Lay and Professional Audiences
Betty has developed and delivered presentations and workshops on diabetes clinical care, patient empowerment, obesity, pediatric diabetes, and experiential learning to health professionals and lay audiences in over 30 countries. She has also authored over 100 publications for both lay persons and professionals, including Sweet Kids (American Diabetes Association), Diabetes Myths, Misconceptions and Big Fat Lies! (Diabetes Management & Training Centers, Inc.) and numerous journal articles and educational materials Current Activities Betty is Director of Professional Training for Diabetes Management and Training Centers in Phoenix, AZ and co-author, with DMTC co-founder Kris Swenson, of Diabetes Myths, Misconceptions and Big Fat Lies! and the unique Discovering Diabetes patient education program. She and Ms. Swenson teach professional update courses based on its patient-centered methods to health professionals and diabetes industry employees from around the world. The most recent of her many publications is Draw Wide the Circle of Love: How to Unite Your Family in the Care of a Child with Diabetes. She is a frequent speaker at health professional conferences on a wide variety of topics related to diabetes, obesity, health behavior, and nutrition.
